On Thursday, April 28th Skamania Lodge hosted their annual Bring Your Child To Work Day event with 29 kids. The day started at 8am with breakfast and registration. The group took a tour of the lodge, with descriptions of the different jobs to be done in the different departments. The kids worked in laundry for awhile, feeding sheets and napkins through the “beast”, catching, folding and sorting at the other end. Then upstairs for a project on Happiness, the end results being put together to create a mini picture quilt of everyone’s interpretation of what makes them happy. Then into the kitchen, where some of the kids went to the Bake Shop and learned about dessert creations and preparations. The rest of the group assisted in preparing box lunches for a conference group. When this was complete, the group came back to their banquet room where they learned about napkin folding and set their places for lunch. They observed the setup process for the meal and then had their parents join them for lunch. After, the kids cleaned up and everyone worked on some more crafts. Then we all went outside to put together peanut butter pinecone bird feeders and then walked out on the trail to hang them in the trees. We had some free play time on the lawn during a break in the rain and then back inside again for more projects. In the later afternoon, the kids took turns playing Wii, foosball and ping pong until their parents came to pick them up.
