Honoring a Veteran

Every week we have 2-3 different US ARMY groups that come through the lodge. They are either just getting back from their tour or just getting ready to leave on one. It's just a little something that the ARMY does, letting them spend some time with their families... Well last night while I was working there was a group of Soldiers playing a little football on the front lawn and one of my tables had asked me about the ARMY group. So after I was done telling them they had told me that they would like to buy a few of them some drinks... They told me to put $20 worth of their drinks on their tab. As I went to tell two of the Soldiers that their drinks were being taken care of, they wanted to personally say thank you. I walked the two of them over to the Dining Room to meet the couple, they chatted for a few minutes and said their thank you's. I went back to check on my table a few minutes later and they told me that they would like to bump their $20 to $100. More Soldiers were able to feel the love and respect from this gracious couple. A group of the soldiers even pitched in a couple dollars each and bought the couple an after dinner drink... A gesture so little left a group of soldiers feeling love and respect for what they do for our country. Watching this all unfold made my whole night. It was better than amount of money that I could have received. A little something I read once: A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ' America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'
