Columbia River Gorge
Experience Nature at its Best
Noted as one of the most popular resorts in the region, Skamania Lodge is nestled in the midst of a year-round recreational area, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
The Gorge stretches about 90 miles in length across the many Cascade Range Volcanoes. It is encompassed by such famous volcanoes as Mt. Adams, towering at 12,276', Mt. St. Helens at 8,364' and Oregon's tallest volcano, Mt. Hood at 11,239'.
Enjoy a leisurely cruise aboard the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler, explore a local museum, enjoy local wine tasting, discover the interpretive sites of Lewis and Clark, view the spring wildflowers or take a drive along the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway and explore the many waterfalls, including the spectacular Multnomah Falls.
For the outdoor enthusiast, the area offers hiking, climbing, biking, whitewater rafting, windsurfing, kayaking and salmon, steelhead and sturgeon fishing. The wintertime offers great local downhill skiing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
Other activities include: scenic drives on The Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway, Mt. Hood Loop and Mt. St. Helens Loop, river boat cruises on the Columbia River aboard the authentic Sternwheeler vessel, whitewater rafting, windsurfing, kayaking, biking, and many hikes through the nearby evergreen forests past waterfalls, wildflowers, lava beds and ice caves.
One hour from Skamania Lodge is Mt. Hood, Oregon's tallest mountain at 11,235 feet. The Mt. Hood National Forest is a year-round playground with five wilderness areas and a superb hiking trail system, excellent fishing and camping, and several great downhill and cross country ski areas. For more information about the local area, go to the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce web site at http://skamania.org.
Skamania Lodge was built in 1993, and was a true public-private partnership involving four primary parties: The Columbia River Gorge Commission, the US Forest Service, Skamania County and Salishan Lodge, working with its associate Grayco Resources, Inc.
Skamania Lodge is proud of its heritage and continued relationship with the US Forest Service. Our lobby is host to a Forest Service Information Center that is a great partner in providing visitors to our area professional information about the Gorge and all of the recreation wonders that it has to offer.
