Geocaching at Skamania Lodge
For those of you with a love of the outdoors and a passion for exploration, consider a little geocaching during your visit to Skamania Lodge. With a handheld GPS and some published coordinates at “geocaching.com”, Geocaching allows you to find neat and unusual places off the beaten path. GPS coordinates are posted on the internet to the location of a hidden container at different locations. You simply download the coordinates to the GPS and let it guide you to the container. The container, at a minimum consists of a log so you can sign proving that you found the geocache. Some containers are quite small and only have enough room for the log. Other containers are large enough to hold trinkets or swag. The area around Stevenson and Skamania Lodge is loaded with lots of creative geocaches. They bring you to some great hikes, fantastic views, and interesting places. Most of the geocaches are placed by the local geocachers to show off something interesting that you would not normally find on your own. It’s always fun to find the hidden geocache, but the real fun is the journey with friends and family trying to locate the geocache. So next time you are in town, do a search at “Geocaching.com” of Skamania lodge or 98648 and let the adventure begin.
Raptor House of Yakima is a rehabilitation center where injured, sick, and orphaned birds of prey are brought for medical attention. The birds receive care from local veterinarians who donate their services and medication to the raptors and the Raptor House Rehabilitation Center. The birds are then put in designated flight pens for its species for exercise and recuperation. Once ready for release, they are released in the same location found or a designated location from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Raptor House Rehabilitation Centers mission is to preserve the earth's biological diversity and to secure the future of bird species in their natural environments. We work to fulfill that mission through education and raptor rehabilitation. Recently they recorded a release of two Swainson’s Hawks after rehabilitation.
