These stunning photos are of the State of Washington's Beacon Rock as seen from Strawberry Island. Strawberry Island is a wonderful, family friendly hiking area in North Bonneville and it sits along the Columbia River. Great views of the river, the Bonneville Dam, Beacon Rock and surrounding mountains. Strawberry Island is less than 10 minutes from Skamania Lodge.

Anniversary Visit to Skamania Lodge in Washington
My husband Tom and I married in November 1996 and spent our short honeymoon at Skamania Lodge. We truly enjoyed a wonderful meal and our Fireside room after our drive to the Lodge. The following morning, I decided to surprise Tom by building a cozy fire. Unfortunately, I didn't open the damper, and Tom woke up to a room filled with smoke! We quickly opened the damper and aired out the room, and alerted the staff that we were not burning down the lodge. It is a funny memory, and I doubt I'll ever live it down. We're planning on returning to the Lodge to celebrate our 17th anniversary next month. I was glad to read that the Fireside rooms now have gas fireplaces....it's much more likely that we can enjoy a fire without pyrotechnics!
Festive, elegant and fun, the holidays at Skamania Lodge and the Columbia River Gorge are celebrated with food and treasured traditions that make this truly the “most wonderful time of the year!”

Fall is a favorite time for hikers to hit the trails to discover the fabulous fall colors of the Columbia River Gorge, near Portland, Oregon. The City of Stevenson, Washington recently published an awesome article about the wonderful Fall colors that hikers can experience from The Cape Horn Trail, in the Columbia River Gorge, that we wanted to share with you.
The Cape Horn Trail is one of the newest hiking trails in Skamania County, featuring gorgeous views, rocky crags, streams, two waterfalls and fabulous fall colors. The entire loop is made up of two segments separated by Highway 14. The upper trail climbs from the trailhead, reaching a 1,300-foot high point along Pioneer Ridge and at the Nancy Russell Viewpoint. Both offer outstanding views of trees changing color all the way down the gorge.
