Making a Positive Difference for The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Areaphoto

The National Forest Foundation's Forest Stewardship Fund gives guests an easy way to be stewards of our amazing public lands. Throughout the country, when you stay at participating lodges, you may voluntarily contribute $1 per room night to the Forest Stewardship Fund, to enhance the National Forest or Scenic Area adjacent to where the funds are collected. The National Forest Foundation, the participating business and the local Forest Service work together to invest the funds in on-the-ground conservation projects, conducted through local non-profit partners.  Projects include those that improve wildlife habitat, enrich streams, restore native plants, and improve recreational experiences.

Click here to see a list of recent projects funded by your donations.  For more information about the fund, please visit the National Forest Foundation's website or contact Greg Peters at gpeters@nationalforests.org or (406) 830-3361.

One of the Best Hikes to See Fall Colors in the State of Washingtonphoto

Fall is a favorite time for hikers to hit the trails to discover the fabulous fall colors of the Columbia River Gorge, near Portland, Oregon.  The City of Stevenson, Washington recently published an awesome article about the wonderful Fall colors that hikers can experience from The Cape Horn Trail, in the Columbia River Gorge, that we wanted to share with you.

The Cape Horn Trail is one of the newest hiking trails in Skamania County, featuring gorgeous views, rocky crags, streams, two waterfalls and fabulous fall colors. The entire loop is made up of two segments separated by Highway 14. The upper trail climbs from the trailhead, reaching a 1,300-foot high point along Pioneer Ridge and at the Nancy Russell Viewpoint.  Both offer outstanding views of trees changing color all the way down the gorge.
