For those of you with a love of the outdoors and a passion for exploration, consider a little geocaching during your visit to Skamania Lodge. With a handheld GPS and some published coordinates at “geocaching.com”, Geocaching allows you to find neat and unusual places off the beaten path. GPS coordinates are posted on the internet to the location of a hidden container at different locations. You simply download the coordinates to the GPS and let it guide you to the container. The container, at a minimum consists of a log so you can sign proving that you found the geocache. Some containers are quite small and only have enough room for the log. Other containers are large enough to hold trinkets or swag. The area around Stevenson and Skamania Lodge is loaded with lots of creative geocaches. They bring you to some great hikes, fantastic views, and interesting places. Most of the geocaches are placed by the local geocachers to show off something interesting that you would not normally find on your own. It’s always fun to find the hidden geocache, but the real fun is the journey with friends and family trying to locate the geocache.
