Pirate Ships Set Sail on the Columbia River, Dock with Skamania Lodge
Stevenson, Washington Welcomes Historic Tall Ships
STEVENSON, Wash. (May 14, 2013)— Skamania Lodge, an all-season resort and conference center nestled in the Columbia River Gorge, will play host to 18th and 19th century historical tall ship replicas, the brig Lady Washington and the topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain, on Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23.
The pirate ships will be making their way up and down the Columbia River, and docking in Stevenson, Wash., where guests can tour the boats during the day, or cruise the mighty Columbia during an Evening Adventure Sail, which takes place on Saturday, June 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The two-hour Evening Adventure Sail will feature passed hors d'oeuvres and beverages, including beer and wine, and will give participants the chance to help raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, or even take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. This unique sailing excursion offers an amazing opportunity to experience an exciting piece of history, and witness amazing views of the Gorge from the river.
The Evening Adventure Sail is $40 per adult and $25 per child. Room packages are also available, starting at $289, which includes one night in a forest view guest room, a s ‘mores kit for a relaxing time at Skamania Lodge’s famous fire pit, and tickets to the sailing excursion for two adults and two children. Public tours of these historical pirate vessels will also be given while the ships are docked in the Port of Skamania County. Those not wanting to sail are invited to come aboard and get an exciting educational tour that is fit for the whole family; crew in period dress will be on-hand to share the history of each vessel. Open ship viewing times will run from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. There will also be a public sailing session on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

About the Ships
The Lady Washington is a replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged vessels to visit the west coast of North America, and has been dubbed the Official Ship of Washington State. She has appeared in several motion pictures and popular videos, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and mostly recently Seattle-based hip-hop artist Macklemore's music video for "Can't Hold Us," which has been viewed more than 19 million times.
The Hawaiian Chieftain is an interpretation of a typical early 19th century coastal trader. Launched in 1988, she specializes in hands-on living history education programs for young people.
