SKAMANIA LODGE OFFERS FAMILY-FRIENDLY SPRINGTIME
STEVENSON, Wash. (February 17, 2012) — With warmer spring days just around the corner, Skamania Lodge, located in the heart of the spectacular Columbia River Gorge, has lined up a variety of family-fun events and activities. Whether it’s for spring break, to celebrate Easter or just to “get away from it all” for a long weekend, the Lodge has dozens of indoor and outdoor activities for young and old alike, all without ever having to leave the Lodge property.
Guided Hikes
Meandering through the 175-wooded acres surrounding Skamania Lodge are more than four miles of hiking paths where guests can explore the forested landscape, enjoy spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Mountains and get a glimpse of local wildlife. The three loop trails offer day hiking for both the experienced and the novice; there’s even a fitness trail with workout stations for those who want to get in shape for the upcoming summer months.
Guided tours by U.S. Forest Service staff are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Guests can register for the hikes at the Forest Service office located in the lobby of the Lodge. The guided tours are free for Lodge guests.
Kids Story Telling
For children, there’s no better way to unwind after a busy day than by being read to before going off to bed. Children and their parents can snuggle up in front of the 85-foot stone fireplace in the Lodge’s Gorge Room to hear story-time favorites, sip hot chocolate and enjoy cookies baked right at the Lodge.
Story telling is free to Lodge guests and takes place on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. beginning March 24 through April 7.
Cake Wars
Inspired by the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, Skamania Lodge’s very own Cake Wars are a perfect way for kids to spend an afternoon creating their own special cakes and competing for the best design. Contest participants are provided with small cakes and cake decoration supplies.
Cake War competitions will be held on Saturday, March 24, and Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m. The cost is $10 per cake.
Game Room
The Lodge’s popular game room will be up and running for those staying at the Lodge during Spring Break. Adults and children alike can enjoy playing such games as foosball, air hockey, Wii, Ping-Pong, and more. The game room will be open every day between March 23 and April 8.
Easter Weekend
A traditional egg hunt and brunch in the beautiful Cascade Dining Room are all a part of the Easter weekend festivities to be held at Skamania Lodge.
The Easter egg hunt will be held in the Lodge on Sunday, April 8, at 8:30 a.m. Easter Brunch will be held on Sunday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Reservations required.)
