SKAMANIA LODGE RECEIVES FIVE NATIONAL AWARDS IN 2009
Pacific Northwest resort honored for amenities and commitment to sustainability
Stevenson, Wash. – (December 01, 2009) – Skamania Lodge, an all-season mountain resort in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, is honored to have received five awards in 2009. The various awards recognize Skamania Lodge’s superior meetings facilities, the property’s commitment to the environment and sustainability, and the challenging Golf Course.
“We are honored to receive so many awards from professional associations and publications this year,” said Scott Spann, general manager of Skamania Lodge. “These official awards reinforce what we hear time and time again from our guests—that they are thrilled with their experiences here, whether for leisure or business—and we are pleased to be recognized for our high quality of service and accommodations.”
Skamania Lodge, an International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) approved conference center, has been recognized by three influential trade publications and is the recipient of the Smart Meetings Platinum Choice Award, the Successful Meetings Magazine Pinnacle Award, and the Meetings West Best of the West Award. The Smart Meetings Platinum Choice Award recognizes emerging technology and technical support, the latest in meeting industry trends and staff that go above and beyond to accommodate guests. The Successful Meetings Magazine Pinnacle Award is given for a commitment to hospitality excellence, innovation, customer collaboration and state-of-the-art meetings facilities. The Meetings West Best of the West Award is awarded to properties who offer top-quality guest services and amenities, high-tech equipment and support, and superior overall value.
In recognition of Skamania Lodge’s ongoing efforts and dedication to sustainability, the IACC presented the property with the Green Star Award. In order to qualify for the award, Skamania Lodge pledged to uphold the IACC’s Code of Sustainability, which includes 59 tenets in the following categories: Education, Awareness and Public Declaration; Waste Management; Recycling and Reusing; Water Conservation; Energy Management; Air Quality; and Food and Beverage. Skamania Lodge currently ranks in the Gold Tier for having 85 percent of the practices in place, and will continue moving towards the goal of 100 percent adherence.
In addition to being recognized for its meetings facilities and dedication to sustainability, Skamania Lodge’s Golf Course was named one of Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play with recognition for being “the best course for staying on the straight and narrow.” The challenging 18-hole, par 70 course located on the property’s 175 acres features breathtaking views over the Columbia River Gorge. The golf course services include a driving range, practice bunker, chipping and putting greens, full-service golf shop, cart rentals and an onsite staff of PGA professionals.
