SKAMANIA LODGE TO RECEIVE MAJOR INTERIOR DESIGN REMODELING
STEVENSON, Wash. (February 7, 2012) — Skamania Lodge, located in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, will soon undergo interior remodeling throughout the public areas of the magnificent property that will revive and rediscover the rich heritage of the Lodge. In early March 2012, work will begin on the Lodge’s lobby, Gorge Room (or great room) and River Rock, the casual dining restaurant and bar. The project is slated for completion on May 1 of this year.
“Our goal is to achieve a rustic yet stylish ambience without detracting from the charm and appeal of the original Cascadian-style architecture,” said Skamania Lodge General Manager Scott Spann. “The new furnishings will make the Lodge even more comfortable for those seeking an escape from their otherwise hectic lives.”
Because the remodeling does not include any major reconstruction, there will be no disruption to guests during the six-week project.
The overriding theme of the new design combines the spirit of the great outdoors and Northwest history with contemporary design elements. Rich rustic wood and native stone accents, Native-American-designed area rugs and historic maps and art pieces will be complemented by whimsical paintings, rich fabrics, sleek furnishings and unusual curves.
When the property opened in 1993, it was designed to be reminiscent of the great lodges of the early 1900s. The rustic and historic architectural features that Skamania Lodge has become known for will be elevated. The four-story-high pitched roof, massive timber columns, wood paneling and native stone will still be prominent throughout the Lodge. And, the main focal point will continue to be the 85-foot stone fireplace in the Gorge Room where guests gather to relax, enjoy the spectacular view, and partake in wine tastings and other special events.
The popular Waterleaf Spa will also undergo remodeling with the redesign of the Waterleaf Terrace. An additional new hot tub will be located on the outdoor terrace in order to accommodate an adults-only hot tub. The larger existing hot tub will continue to be available to guests of all ages. The landscaping surrounding the two tubs will be enhanced with a new waterfall, flagstone terrace, and lush greenery.
In addition to the design remodeling, the Lodge’s golf course will be undergoing some exciting changes. The putting course will be significantly expanded and redesigned to include nine contoured and landscaped holes. The expanded course and new design are in keeping with the Lodge’s family-friendly golfing experience, but will also be available for conferences and meetings during breaks and for team-building activities.
This is the first of two phases of remodeling. Phase Two will begin in the spring of 2013 and will include major remodeling of the popular Cascade Dining Room, including expansion of the deck.
The interior design has been created by Seattle-based Dawson Design Associates and the general contractor for the project is Award Construction and Restoration Inc.
