Destination Hotels & Resorts marketing, reservations and revenue teams recently wrapped up a productive and successful conference at Skamania Lodge in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Staff from the Destination Hotels & Resorts corporate, regional and property teams all joined together for three busy days filled with training, teambuilding and networking. We were able to witness firsthand Skamania's creative teambuilding solutions -- highlights are showcased below.

Skamania Lodge, near Portland, Oregon, is thrilled to be part of an exciting new culinary series recently launched by our hotel management company - Destination Hotels & Resorts.  "The Study Of...” culinary series features an in-depth exploration of ingredients with the chefs of the Destination Culinary Collection. Each quarter, a new gastronomic topic is unveiled for our chefs to examine through cooking demonstrations, educational lectures, innovative recipes or sumptuous tastings.

The Columbia River Gorge region has some of the best vistas for scenic photography.  With wild flower season in full-bloom, Skamania Lodge IT Director, Henry Kammetler, took these beautiful photos while out and about in the Gorge yesterday.

The two color photos were taken at Tom McCall Ridge which is just outside Mosier, OR. The black and white photo was taken on the Catherine Creek Trail just outside of Bingen, WA.

Every year we celebrate Mother’s Day, an American holiday which honors motherhood and the special women in our lives. Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 when she held a memorial for her own mother. It became an official holiday in the United States in 1914. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day most commonly falls on the second Sunday in May and traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards and other gifts.

Skamania Lodge has a unique place in our relationship history. On our first official date in September of 2001, Michael and I took a drive in the Gorge. He explained he’d heard about a place called Skamania Lodge and that he would like to visit there someday. Three months later, I surprised Michael with a trip to Skamania. It was our very first getaway together as a couple.

Beginning May 4th of this year, you will be able to soar with the eagles with our new Skamania Lodge Zip Line Tour. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Columbia River Gorge and surrounding mountains as you experience a tour full of adrenalin and adventure. On this tour, you’ll fly suspended by a cable over the moss covered firs of the rain forest canopy while riding down eight different zip lines at heights of 100 feet and lengths of 1000 feet. 

Sonoma county winemakers, Don & Sons, have partnered with Destination Hotels & Resorts’ Culinary Collection to bring you “The Study Of Salmon.”  The “Study Of…” culinary series celebrates the ingredients that allow us to create brilliant dishes to delight and inspire. Of course, no great meal is complete without the perfect wine pairing and a salmon dish is no different. Since salmon is a pink fish it pairs well with both white and red wines.

“The Study Of” culinary series features an in-depth exploration of our favorite ingredients with recipes and drink pairings that will create an exceptional meal. Sonoma county winemakers, Don & Sons, have partnered with the Destination Culinary Collection to share their wine pairing recommendations for the current featured ingredient - salmon.
