Tall Ships in Portland

Unleash Your Inner Pirate - Historic Tall Ship Visit

It's a Pirate's Life for you this Summer at Skamania Lodge, as this all-season resort and conference center nestled in the Columbia River Gorge, plays host to 18th and 19th century historical tall ship replicas, the brig Lady Washington and the topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain, July 16 and 17, 2015.

The pirate ships will be making their way up and down the Columbia River for an 8-week schedule, docking at the Port of Stevenson, where guests can tour the boats during the day or cruise the mighty Columbia in the evening.

Adventure Sail - July 16th and 17th

The two-hour Adventure Sail includes a two hour voyage on the Columbia River, incredible views of The Gorge, firsthand insight into how to operate these historic vessels, bottled water, dry snacks and souvenir pirate hat.  Participants have a chance to help raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, or even take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. This unique sailing excursion offers an amazing opportunity to experience an exciting piece of history!

The Adventure Sail ticket price is $65 per person 12 years and older; $45 per child 2-11 years of age; free for children under 2.

Guests can reserve space on the Adventure Sail through Skamania Lodge by calling our reservation team at (800) 221-7117 or stopping by the Lodge gift shop.

Public Ship Tours

Public tours of these historical pirate vessels will also be given while the ships are docked in the Port of Skamania County. Those not wanting to sail are invited to come aboard and get an exciting educational tour that is fit for the whole family; crew in period dress will be on-hand to share the history of each vessel. Open ship viewing times are 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16th and Friday, July 17th.

Reservations are not necessary for the public docked tours; simply arrive in Stevenson during the designated times on Thursday and Friday.  Tours are by donation (suggestion is $3 per person).  Tickets must be purchased for all sailings.

About the Ships

The Lady Washington is a replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged vessels to visit the west coast of North America, and has been dubbed the Official Ship of Washington State. She has appeared in several motion pictures and popular videos, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and mostly recently Seattle-based hip-hop artist Macklemore's music video for "Can't Hold Us," which has been viewed more than 19 million times. Lady Washington has also appeared on the popular television show Once Upon a Time.

The Hawaiian Chieftain is an interpretation of a typical early 19th century coastal trader. Launched in 1988, she specializes in hands-on living history education programs for young people.
