Today was a typical March Thursday here in the Columbia Gorge, it was cool, rainy, cloudy. What wasn't so typical was that we had a wedding - outside - in the rain with no tent. Most couples would take one look at this weather and say, "Forget it - let's do a lovely ceremony inside the Stevenson Ballroom in front of the fireplace." Not Patrick and Havilah, they are hardy, northwest folk who LOVE the outdoors.

Several months ago a lovely young couple, Catie and Richard, came to visit us here at Skamania. They loved us, we loved them, and wedding planning began. They settled on March 17 as their wedding date because it was the date that worked. They wanted simple, elegant and romantic and I think we all achieved it. It was a short and sweet ceremony in front of the fireplace in our Stevenson Ballroom, followed by cocktails in the conference lobby with the sun peeking through the windows. A little later everyone moved back into the Ballroom for a scrumptious buffet. The pictures I took aren't professional quality by any means but you'll get a sense of the romance of this couple's nuptials. It's been a lovely afternoon and I had so much fun with this family. Congratulations Caitie and Richard!
