When it comes time to do the wedding rehearsal, things can sometimes get messy. Either too many people want to be involved, or others simply don’t do a good job of paying attention and executing their roles. The only people that should be involved in the rehearsal process are the active members of the wedding party. If too many people get involved, it often leads to undue stress. And what about assignments? There are so many things to consider!
Here are four of my top do’s and don’ts when it comes to rehearsing for the big day:
- Make sure everyone has a role – It is important that if people are going to attend the rehearsal, they have a job to do. I’m not talking about pouring refreshments for people during the rehearsal. I’m talking about a job that will need to be done on the wedding day. Once you have a role assigned, make sure each person knows exactly what is expected of them.
- Make sure to plan for little ones – Kids are great and can be so much fun when part of the wedding party. But remember, these little tykes get bored/tired/cranky quickly. It is important to walk them through what they need to do (be it a flower girl or ring bearer), but make sure you are ready to handle any temper tantrums or sleepy munchkins.
- Keep it easy and fun – Remember that this is just the practice run. Keeping people comfortable and happy is important because you want the wedding party to feel energized and confident going into the main event. Remind people to wear comfortable clothes and be sure to have some snacks and beverages ready.
- Plan with your planner – A good wedding planner will not only have the wedding itself planned, but have the rehearsal planned. Make sure to sit down with your planner ahead of time and review their rehearsal plans. There is nothing worse than an unstructured and chaotic rehearsal because when it comes to the real thing – everything must go flawlessly.
There are plenty of other tricks and tips to making the wedding rehearsal a complete success, but the above four are a great start in thinking about how to make your own rehearsal a huge success. Remember, the smoother this day goes, the easier and more relaxed you will be on your wedding day.
