We were celebrating my husband Jason’s 40th birthday on a road trip that began in Baltimore Maryland and ended in Jacksonville Florida. We stopped in Tybee Island, Georgia at my Aunt Susie and Uncle Stewart’s Bed and Breakfast for a couple of days. Jason had invited my parents to drive down from Chattanooga, Tennessee to join us. By this point in our relationship I had long given up on the fact that he was going to ask me to marry him, but he had a plan that I didn’t know about.
Earlier in January of 2011 Jason and I had gone home to see my family in Tennessee and Jason asked my dad then if he could marry me, since I am a good southern girl and that is what you do there. So we went to dinner in Tybee with my parents and my aunt and uncle and he was going to ask me there in front of everybody but my dad and him decided that was not the right place. So we went back to the B&B after dinner and my Aunt Susie had made Jason a homemade southern key lime pie for his birthday. We were singing happy birthday and my mom was taking pictures and Jason looked at me and said “are you not going to take a picture of this?” I felt terrible and ran and got my camera. When I came back everyone had a slice of pie and mine had my great grandmother’s ring in it. I recognized the ring immediately but was very confused. I knew right then what was happening. He asked me to marry him right in front of my mom, dad, aunt and uncle. It was so sweet. He knew I wanted my family to be a part of it.
Later I found out my dad and Jason had been planning it since January but my dad forgot to tell my mom to bring the ring. But my mom brought the ring just in case Jason asked her for it. So it all worked out and was meant to be!
