First of all, let’s define the signature cocktail. The signature cocktail is an adult beverage made specifically for the wedding. Sometimes there is just one cocktail and sometimes there are two separate ones – one for the groom and one for the bride. But should you bother? In most circumstances, I think having a signature cocktail of some kind is a great idea. Here are a couple of ways to think about the signature cocktail for your wedding:
- Memorable – Instead of just the standard bar fare, guests can enjoy something special. By creating something that is unique to your wedding, guests have yet another memory associated with your special day.
- Cultural – I once went to a wedding where the bride was of Vietnamese heritage and the groom was of Irish heritage. They created two worlds with their cocktails: one based with sake and one based with Irish stout beer.
- Control – Unfortunately, cost and logistics are always an important part of a wedding. Creating signature cocktails and limiting a menu can be a way to help control costs and reduce some of the logistical issues associated with hosting a full bar. Not to mention, it makes it easier for the bartender to quickly serve drinks to thirsty guests.
As I say over and over again, it is the little details and special touches that make weddings go from great to amazing. The signature cocktail can definitely be one of those details.
