As hosts to visitors from all areas of the country, our culinary philosophy needs to speak loudly of the dramatic surroundings of the area and the rustic elegance of the Lodge coupled with the rich history and culture of our region. The forests and mountains, the Columbia River, the Pacific Ocean, and the rich farmlands of the region are all considerations when creating our menus. With over 20 years of experience and a passion for Pacific Northwest ingredients, Chef Staerkel brings a fresh, locally inspired vision to our culinary program. He will lead all dining experiences across the Lodge, crafting menus that celebrate the flavors, farms, and foraged ingredients of the Columbia River Gorge.

“I’ve always been drawn to the energy of the kitchen – the teamwork, creativity, and ongoing challenges,” said Staerkel. “Cooking allows me to connect with people in a way that few professions offer. I love that a meal can bring people together, create memories, and tell the story of the Pacific Northwest – honest, rustic, and deeply rooted in local flavors.”
